Is the David De Gea to Real Madrid transfer saga over?
The David De Gea to Real Madrid transfer saga may finally be nearing an end!
Real Madrid famously came so close to signing David De Gea, only to be scuppered by a broken fax machine.
Since then, De Gea has continually been linked with a return to the Spanish capital and a move to Real Madrid.
However, Manchester United have held firm and been rewarded with some stunning performances from De Gea.
Real Madrid move for a goalkeeper
Marca reveal on Thursday that Real Madrid are making a serious move to buy one of the best young goalkeepers in Spain.
Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, just 23, is getting closer to Madrid.
Real Madrid are considering paying Athletic Bilbao a €20m compensation fee in January to seal the young Spanish goalkeeper whose contract runs out next summer.
Athletic have been negotiating with Kepa since last January but are struggling to secure a deal with the custodian.
Kepa and his representatives are unhappy with the wages being offered and Real Madrid would offer a much better salary than Athletic Bilbao.
Juventus & Arsenal also keen on Kepa
Real Madrid see Kepa as the perfect back-up to Keylor Navas.
If Real Madrid do bag Kepa, it is extremely unlikely that they would make a move for David De Gea in the coming seasons.
To add to the intrigue, Kepa also has suitors from two of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Juventus and Arsenal are keeping tabs on Kepa via unofficial intermediaries, according to Marca.
Both Juventus and Arsenal have ageing keepers in Gianluigi Buffon and Petr Cech.
