Huddersfield’s January deals
Will Huddersfield stay in the Premier League this season?
After 22 rounds of the campaign the Terriers are defying almost every pre-season prediction.
They are 11th in the table with 24 points on the board.
Yet David Wagner’s side are far from safe in the English top flight. They are just four points above the bottom three.
This weekend Huddersfield take on West Ham at home, while they also take on Stoke and Liverpool in January.
Norwich’s Alex Pritchard
It looks certain that Huddersfield will bring in several players in the January transfer window.
They’ve already signed Monaco defender Terence Kongolo on loan until the end of the season.
And, after several days of rumours, Norwich attacking midfielder Alex Pritchard is poised to be the second signing of the window.
The Huddersfield Examiner have reported on the Pritchard deal as follows:
Huddersfield Town have agreed a fee for Norwich City creative midfielder Alex Pritchard.
While reports are talking of a fee of £12m rising to around £14m, my understanding is the agreement is nearer to £10m with add-ons for the former Tottenham Hotspur man.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has scored eight goals in 43 games for Norwich since an £8m move from Tottenham in 2016.
Liverpool’s Marko Grujic
Huddersfield are also trying to sign Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic in January, according to ESPN.
Of course, Huddersfield boss David Wagner and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp are well known to be best friends.
Grujic has yet to break into the Liverpool first team since his arrival into the Premier League. So could a move to Huddersfield be good for all parties?
Grujic has only made just three substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season. ESPN report:
Jurgen Klopp open to the idea of (Grujic) temporarily leaving in order to receive regular first-team football.
Championship side Aston Villa are extremely keen on the Serbia international, while West Ham United have also expressed an interest, the source said.
The additions of Pritchard and Grujic could make a huge impact for Huddersfield in the second half of the season.
The Terriers have recently lost Izzy Brown, while the likes of Tom Ince have only contributed one Premier League goal this season.
