How Tuchel’s sacking will impact Chelsea’s pursuit of Declan Rice

An insight into Chelsea’s pursuit of Declan Rice has been provided.

Rice, a former Chelsea youngster, has been linked with a return to west London for some time now.

Chelsea currently have N’Golo Kante as their main defensive midfield option but the Frenchman is now getting on in years and is becoming an injury-prone asset.

There is also a chance Kante leaves Chelsea for free next summer when his contract expires, as the Blues and the player have so far not been able to come to terms on a new deal. Chelsea are said to be offering two years with an option, whilst Kante is looking for three with an option.

So, it makes sense that Chelsea will need to bring in a DM at some point soon.

This did look set to be West Ham midfielder Declan Rice. But with Chelsea now having new owners and a new manager, fans were likely concerned the club were no longer interested in Rice.

However, Dean Jones speaking to Give Me Sport, has recently provided an update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Rice and it is good news for the Londoners:

“Thomas Tuchel’s departure won’t really affect Chelsea’s vision of signing Declan Rice,” he said. “There are still people that remain within the club that are set on going for Declan Rice when the time arrives.”
