Guillem Balague’s Philippe Coutinho update after Barcelona say deal is ‘close’

Philippe Coutinho & Barcelona

Once again on Thursday, Liverpool fans are consuming reports linking Philippe Coutinho with a move to Barcelona.

The story was advanced on Wednesday night, when Barcelona claimed the Coutinho deal was “close”.

That statement was made by Barcelona general manager Pep Segura after the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.

Speaking on Catalan television station TV3, Pep Segura made the following statement:

We are close to Coutinho and Dembele. We are discussing their deals but do not know when it will be done.

We know we have to strengthen this team and that is what we are doing. We have to help the team.

Guillem Balague on Philippe Coutinho

Throughout this transfer saga Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague has posted plenty of updates on the Brazilian.

This has continued on Thursday, as Balague has updated his social media followers on how to understand the comments from Pep Segura.

In positive news for Liverpool fans, Balague believes that Coutinho is still most likely to remain at Anfield this summer.

He believes that when the Barcelona official claimed a deal was close, he was referring to Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele.

Ousmane Dembele went on strike at the club last week and has supposedly flown to Barcelona in anticipation of a deal being completed.

‘Liverpool have’t moved’

On Wednesday, Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo reported that Philippe Coutinho is now putting even more pressure on Liverpool to sell him to Barcelona.

Coutinho does not want to miss the opportunity to play for Barcelona and has told Liverpool he will never play for them again.

The Brazilian superstar has informed Jurgen Klopp that he does not plan to wear a Liverpool shirt again.

Yet Balague is convinced that Liverpool are determined to keep hold of the 25-year-old Brazilian. The pundit said:

Liverpool haven’t moved an inch their position on Coutinho: they not selling.
