Guillem Balague on Arsenal
This week Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has uploaded a video looking at Arsenal’s business in January.
Alexis Sanchez left the Gunners to join Manchester United.
But that deal also saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way, while he was joined by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
So how did Arsenal’s January go: success or failure?
‘Arsenal’s moves for two defenders’
During his analysis of Arsenal’s winter moves in the market, Balague confirmed that Arsenal made moves for two defenders.
One is assumed to be West Brom’s Jonny Evans. It’s unclear who the other may be, and Balague offered no clues as to the identity of the target.
In good news for Arsenal fans, that disclosure reveals how Arsenal’s management realise they still need to improve their defence.
Will that happen this summer? That’s the obvious expectation.
Mkhitaryan & Aubameyang
When evaluating Arsenal’s business, Balague played both sides of the argument.
Looking at the positives, Sanchez has now gone and so all that rumour-mongering around the Chilean has stopped.
Mkhitaryan, as he showed against Everton, can be a hugely creative talent. While Aubameyang could outscore Alexis while on less money.
In addition, Mesut Ozil renewed his contract in another boon to the Gunners
But Balague also looked at the deals in a negative light.
He labelled Mkhitaryan as a player who failed under Jose Mourinho. Aubameyang’s complicated character has also been flagged up.
When it came to his conclusion, Balague believes Arsenal’s business was overall positive.
