Word stemming from the English media on Monday suggests that Marko Grujic is inching ever closer to bringing a permanent end to his Liverpool stint.
24-year-old Grujic was the first signing of the Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool, when he made the move to Merseyside from boyhood club Red Star Belgrade in the summer of 2016.
However, his tender years, coupled with the competition for places at Anfield, have since seen Grujic go on to notch just 8 Premier League appearances for the Reds.
The all-action midfielder has been farmed out on a quartet of loans, the latest of which saw Grujic link up with Portuguese giants Porto last summer.
After impressing in the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin in 2019/20, the move was viewed as a step in the right direction for the Serb, with Porto of course regulars in the Champions League.
All told, however, Grujic’s stint with Sergio Conceição’s men proved hit and miss.
The ex-Red Star talent managed 38 appearances across all competitions, but only 17 came in the form of starts, including just 9 in the Liga NOS.
In turn, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when, back in March, reports stemming from Portugal suggested that Porto had already come to the definitive decision not to pursue a permanent deal for Grujic.
But, as outlined above, if ensuing updates doing the rounds in England early this week are to be believed, then the board at the Estadio do Dragao appear to have changed their stance.
As per a report from Football Insider, Grujic is now ‘confident’ of seeing his Porto switch made a permanent one ahead of next season.
It is suggested that Liverpool have made clear they will not stand in the way of the Serb moving on once and for all, with Porto, in turn, locked in negotiations with the Reds.
A fee of at least £10 million is being discussed by the two parties, with Liverpool said to be holding out for close to £15 million.
