Leao was linked with Chelsea towards the end of the 2022 summer transfer window, but no move came to pass.
The 23-year-old has since continued to impress in Milan, scoring three and assisting three in six Serie A ties so far this season.
And now, Fabrizio Romano ahs provided an update on the future of the Portuguese.
Discussing Leao and contract talks with Milan in his CaughtOffside column, Romano said: “Despite some rumours of contract talks stalling, AC Milan have been negotiating with Rafa Leao for a long time and talks will continue in the next months – anything more than that is speculation.
“His contract expires in 2024 but the club has always refused any approach as he has a €150m release clause. So far, the situation is quiet but the future will be decided by next summer.
“I believe that Leao is already up there with the game’s biggest stars – he was the best player in Serie A last season and he is doing excellent things.”
Leao’s recent upturn in form also earn him a call-up to the Portuguese national team, whom he has now made nine appearances for since his debut on October 9, 2021.
Leao is a left winger by trade, but he can also play through the middle and on the right.
