Patrice Evra

Sorry Everton: West Ham sign Patrice Evra

Everton, West Ham & Patrice Evra

Well that escalated quickly…

French news outlet RMC Sport are confirming on Wednesday that West Ham have signed Patrice Evra.

Evra was a free-agent after Marseille terminated his contract. The former Man United left-back has his deal at OM rescinded after he assaulted a fan earlier this season.

According to reports in the last twenty-four hours, Everton were battling West Ham for Evra’s signature.

However the Hammers have now won the race to land the 36-year-old.

West Ham’s Patrice Evra deal

It’s believed West Ham have signed Evra on a short term deal until the end of the season.

The defender’s arrival helps plug holes in West Ham’s squad amid a shocking injury crisis.

In recent days Pedro Obiang has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Cheikhou Kouyate, Michail Antonio, Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini, Marko Arnautovic, Jose Fonte, Winston Reid and Edimilson Fernandes are all sidelined too.

At the same time, Arthur Masuaku has been hit with a six match suspension for spitting.

So will Patrice Evra be a starter for West Ham?

That’s unlikely in the near future. Aaron Cresswell is still the number one choice for David Moyes, while, until Masuaku returns, Evra is the back-up.

Leighton Baines & Everton

Everton fans shouldn’t be too bothered about missing out on Evra.

Leighton Baines is close to returning to first team action after a spell on the sidelines.

Speaking to the club website, Baines revealed how he hopes to impress Sam Allardyce when he returns from injury.

I have not had the opportunity to train under him or be a part of it at all. That’s always nice in some respects because you have that little bit more to prove.
