Everton ‘set their sights’ on Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly’s Napoli stint

Kalidou Koulibaly has been plying his trade at the Stadio San Paolo for nearly seven years now, after he signed from Belgian outfit Genk for a fee just shy of £7m.

And the stopper has since cemented himself as an absolutely integral member of the Naples-based outfit’s backline, whilst also earning a name as one of the best centre-halves in Europe.

All told, Koulibaly has notched 277 appearances across all competitions for the Azzurri, helping to guide the club to a Supercoppa Italiana title and, more recently, the Coppa Italia.

Everton interested in Koulibaly

Such fine form, in the past, has unsurprisingly attracted interest from some of England’s top sides.

Following Vincent Kompany’s exit, Manchester City were known to be in the market for a centre-half.

Of course, they have since signed both Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake. But before this, City were seemingly interested in Koulibaly, and were linked with the Senegalese during last summer’s transfer window:

And now, it appears that another Premier League side, albeit admittedly a slightly less high-profile one, are eyeing the Napoli standout.

According to a report from Football Insider on Monday, Everton have set their sights on signing Koulibaly this summer.

It is added that Carlo Ancelotti’s priority in the next transfer window is to recruit a ‘world-class’ centre-back, with Koulibaly top of the club’s target list.

There is no potential fee mentioned in the piece, but, given the fact that he will turn 30 in the summer, it is hard to imagine Napoli demanding the £89m they reportedly wanted back in June of 2020.
