Eric Bailly ‘ready to reject new contract’ ahead of summer Man United departure

Eric Bailly is ready to push for a move away from Manchester United this summer, according to reports.

Struggling stopper

The 2020/21 campaign, all told, has summed up Ivorian international Bailly’s Man United stint.

The 27-year-old, when handed the opportunity to impress, has looked largely solid, with standout showings versus the likes of Burnley and Real Sociedad particular highlights.

Every time it appears as though Bailly’s career in Manchester is finally set to take off, though, one of a high-profile mistake, or a fitness problem (generally the latter), is swiftly forthcoming.

Injury woes have once again plagued the former Villarreal man to this point in the season, with Bailly having suffered no less than four separate ‘knocks’ since the turn of the year alone.

Even when fit, though, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tended to opt for alternative options to Bailly, with Victor Lindelof having established himself as the first-choice partner for Red Devils captain Harry Maguire.

And, with the addition of another central-defensive option having already been touted as the no.1 target for the board at Old Trafford this summer, Bailly’s game-time is unlikely to improve any time soon.

Reds exit?

As such, with the African possessing undoubted talent, questions surrounding Bailly’s future at Manchester United have inevitably begun to mount of late.

Late last year, for example, the stopper was touted as a potential makeweight in a deal to bring Villarreal’s Pau Torres to Old Trafford.

And, as outlined above, if Bailly himself has his way, then an imminent move away from Manchester appears to be very much on the cards.

This comes amid claims that the 27-year-old is ready to reject a new contract, to seek out a new club come the end of the campaign.

The info comes courtesy of ESPN, who, citing sources close to the player, suggest that Bailly has become fed up with his lack of opportunities under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In turn, he has been tipped to knock back any upcoming offers of fresh terms on the part of the Red Devils hierarchy.

With Bailly’s current contract having just a year to run, a summer transfer could therefore represent the best solution for both parties.
