Weeks after it was supposedly a done deal, Marca have announced on Thursday that Lucas Silva’s move from Cruzeiro to Real Madrid may not happen after all.
21-year-old Silva was thought to be on top of Real’s winter wishlist following a spate of midfield injuries to Sami Khedira, James Rodriguez and Luka Modric. With Carlo Ancelotti struggling for bodies aheadof the crucial second half of the season, more acquisitions were thought to be necessary.
That thinking, however, has now changed, report Marca, as Modric looks like to be back quicker than expect
The news outlet report that the Croatian is having successful stem cell treatment to recover, and Modric should be back before February and the return of the Champions League.
Moreover, Real have been locked in a price dispute with Cruzeiro over Lucas Silva’s transfer fee, with Los Blancos refusing to pay the €15 which the Brazilians want.
Marca note that Cruzeiro are remaining steadfast in their valuation knowing that clubs like Arsenal are ready to buy at that figure.
It’s worth adding that Lucas Silva has reportedly rejected the notion of playing at Arsenal as he only dreams of a move to Real Madrid to play with his hero Cristiano Ronaldo.
