Done Deal: Schalke confirm Joel Matip is joining Liverpool

It’s done. Over. Finished.

Liverpool will sign Joel Matip from Schalke this summer on a free transfer.

The news has been rubber stamped at a press conference at the Royal Blues on Monday.

As had been mooted earlier in the day, Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt stood up and told journalists that Matip will be a Liverpool player next season.

The club tried to keep the 24-year-old in the Bundesliga, but Matip[ wanted to test himself in the Premier League.

Matip to Liverpool has been doing the rounds for some time.

Jurgen Klopp is familiar with Matip’s ability, while the defender had reportedly rejected a number of contract offers in recent months.

A few weeks ago reports out of Germany, from Sport 1, claimed that Matip has been offered a new contract doubling his wages at the Royal Blues. The offer was called a “‘mega contract”.

Now its become apparant the defender has again batted that proposal away as he’s committed to joining Liverpool.
