Declan Rice to Chelsea links reemerge as Blues spending spree tipped to continue

Declan Rice

Chelsea are preparing a raid on London rivals West Ham for Declan Rice, according to outlets across both the English and European media.

Blues making moves

The big-money spending spree at Stamford Bridge has of course proven one of the talking points of European football ahead of next season.

Prior to the 2019/20 campaign even coming to a close, Chelsea had already clinched impressive deals for both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.

This has since been followed, this week alone, by a further trio of arrivals.

After Ben Chilwell’s move from Leicester City was finally made official, free agent defenders Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva both put pen-to-paper on contracts in southwest London.

Rice incoming?

Roman Abramovich’s summer of intent, however, appears far from over.

Expected to add to Chelsea’s potentially electric attack any day now, is Bayer Leverkusen standout Kai Havertz.

Incredibly, though, as outlined above, once a deal for Havertz has been officially closed, the Londoners are expected to quickly switch their attentions to yet another high-profile target.

The player in question? Declan Rice.

West Ham midfielder Rice was hotly tipped for a Stamford Bridge switch earlier in the summer, though links had since gone somewhat cold.

As per a number of outlets online this weekend, however, this has not come as a result of Chelsea cooling their interest.

According to Angelo Mangiante of Sky Italy, after seeing an opening offer for the West Ham star turned down, the Blues will soon return with an improved proposal:

Claims of Chelsea’s renewed pursuit of Rice have also been forthcoming in the English media.

As per the likes of the Daily Mail and the Sun, Frank Lampard is extremely keen to coax the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge this summer, with a bid therefore imminent.

‘Rice is seen as perfect for the Blues squad — a natural leader willing to learn from experienced stars.’

It is also suggested, though, that any deal is unlikely to be struck quickly, with West Ham demanding a premium fee for their star midfielder.
