Declan Rice remains Chelsea’s ‘main target’/Lampard provides Kepa & Rudiger future updates
Updates on a number of potential incomings and outgoings at Chelsea have been forthcoming on Monday.
Chelsea rebuilding
Ongoings at Stamford Bridge have of course proven one of the talking points of European football this summer.
This comes with the Blues currently in the midst of a remarkable recruitment drive.
On the back of a pair of transfer windows without a single signing, Chelsea have since secured 7 high-profile additions.
After clinching deals for both Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner before the summer window had even opened, the last week of August saw all of Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva follow suit.
The Londoners’ biggest outlay yet, meanwhile, came 3 weeks ago, when the long-anticipated arrival of Kai Havertz was finally made official in a deal worth a rumoured £70 million.

And, in perhaps the most exciting addition when it comes to the their side’s fortunes on the pitch, the Chelsea faithful were finally treated to news of reinforcements between the posts last Thursday, when Edouard Mendy arrived from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes.
West Ham standout targeted
Incredibly, however, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is to be believed, then the transfer chiefs in southwest London do not yet appear ready to call time on their massive summer spending spree.
This comes amid claims that yet another high-profile star is being firmly eyed as a potential addition to the Blues’ midfield ranks.
The individual in question? Declan Rice.
As per a report from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, English international Rice represents Chelsea’s ‘main target’ for the final week of the transfer window.
The capital giants are now hard at work to move some of the deadwood from Frank Lampard’s squad on, to raise funds ahead of an assault for Rice.
West Ham, however, remain adamant that their star man will not be on the move any time soon:
Chelsea are still considering Declan Rice as their main target – #CFC are now working to sell players then will try again to sign him.
West Ham insist they won’t sell Rice on next days and “he’s gonna stay”. Not easy deal – but still on. 🔵 #Chelsea #WHUFC #transfers— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) September 28, 2020
‘Wouldn’t assume anything’
In other news surrounding Chelsea’s squad, meanwhile, Frank Lampard was today drawn on the futures of two of the club’s transfer-linked stars.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s League Cup meeting with Tottenham on Tuesday, Lampard was first drawn on whether or not Kepa Arrizabalaga has played his final game for the club, following the aforementioned arrival of Mendy.
The Blues boss, though, was quick to play down such a possibility, explaining:
‘No, I won’t go to that point. It’s been a hard time for him. Kepa is a young man and a lot of the spotlight has been unfair.’
On Antonio Rudiger, who has been named as a target for PSG after slipping down the defensive pecking order at Stamford Bridge, Lampard added:
‘I wouldn’t assume anything. I will make no assumption.’
