Concern for Leeds? PSG ‘considering move’ for Illan Meslier

Speculation stemming from the French media this weekend has pointed towards a potential PSG switch for Leeds United star Illan Meslier.

Peacocks stint

Frenchman Meslier has been on the books at Elland Road since the summer of 2019.

The shot-stopper initially linked up with the Whites on loan from long-time club Lorient, viewed at the time as little more than a backup to first-choice Kiko Casilla.

As the season progressed, however, Meslier’s talents began to shine through, eventually leaving Marcelo Bielsa with little choice but to hand the youngster a chance to impress on a consistent basis.

He subsequently went on to end the campaign as Leeds’ no.1, and has since only gone from strength to strength in the Premier League, after being snapped up on a permanent basis for a measly £5 million.

To this point in the season, Meslier has started in all but one of the club’s 29 league outings, keeping 9 clean sheets, and playing a key role in Leeds’ mid-table status.

France return?

Such fine form, at the age of just 21, though, was always likely to pique the interest of some of European football’s heavyweights.

Just weeks ago, for example, Meslier’s agent pointed towards a potential future move to Real Madrid:

‘Illan is starting at Leeds. He loves the club. Perhaps in one, two seasons, if you have a club like Real Madrid that knock on the door – who knows?’

And, on Sunday, Leeds’ no.1 has been tipped to make the move to yet another of the continent’s biggest clubs.

The outfit in question? Paris Saint-Germain.

The info comes courtesy of French outlet The National News, who highlight the search for a new goalkeeper at the Parc des Princes.

Tottenham no.1 Hugo Lloris and Manchester United’s David de Gea are viewed as the Ligue 1 champions’ prime targets, but with both likely to carry considerable price-tags, Meslier is viewed as a more affordable alternative.

Significantly, it is also suggested that the Frenchman would be ‘tempted’ by the idea of a return to his home country, with a summer offer on PSG’s part a real possibility.
