Chelsea & Marco van Ginkel
It’s been a helluva long time since Chelsea fans saw Marco van Ginkel in action.
Now 24, Van Ginkel’s time at Chelsea has been largely dominated by loan spells and injuries.
He’s only made two appearances for the Chelsea first team, while he’s spend time on loan at AC Milan, Stoke and PSV in the past few seasons.
On Sunday it’s been confirmed that Van Ginkel is once again returning to the Dutch club.
Why no sale?
Van Ginkel’s contract with the Blues runs until 2019, but few would guess that the Dutch midfielder will ever become a first team regular at Stamford Bridge.
With that being the case, it’s strange that Chelsea have opted to send the player on yet another season-long loan to PSV instead of getting him off the books for good.
Surely they could have come to a reasonable agreement on a transfer fee?
Many observers often criticise the way in which Chelsea handle young players, as few ever breakthrough to become first team players, while most of the kids are farmed out all across Europe every season.
Is that really the best way to nurture young talent?
