Word stemming from the media on Monday suggests that Premier League giants Chelsea have identified a backup target after coming up short in the club's long-term pursuit of Leeds United star Raphinha.

The name of wide-man Raphinha, of course, took its place centre stage in the headlines at Stamford Bridge over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This came as the Blues positioned themselves firmly alongside London rivals Arsenal and Spanish heavyweights Barcelona in the race for the Brazilian international's signature.

Despite having at one point been viewed as clear favourites to seal a deal for Raphinha, though, Chelsea in fact look primed to miss out, with the 25-year-old instead ready to put pen to paper on terms at the Camp Nou.

The transfer team in west London, in turn, have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.

And, on Monday, it appears as though one such attacking target has been identified on the part of Thomas Tuchel and co.

The player in question? Serge Gnabry.

As per The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and more, German international Gnabry is viewed as a viable, and affordable summer signing at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old, of course formerly of Chelsea's direct rivals Arsenal, will see his current terms at Bayern Munich come to an end in 12 months' time, having knocked back the latest contract proposal put before him by the powers that be in Bavaria.

As a result, it has long been rumoured that Gnabry could be moved on this summer, for something of a cut-price fee.

And Chelsea, it would seem, are keen to take advantage of this situation, having moved forward with 'tentative enquiries' as to the gifted winger's availability.

Bayern, for their part, are understood to be open to parting with Gnabry for a sum in the region of £35 - 45 million.
