Gareth Bale

Chelsea star to Old Trafford & Tottenham’s hold on Gareth Bale

Man United, Chelsea & Tottenham

The teams running second, third and fourth in the Premier League all feature on the back page of the Expresson Sunday.

The tabloid, who have an awful record at getting transfer rumours correct, consider two major Man United signings in the near future.

The first is Gareth Bale’s possible move from Real Madrid, and the second concerns Chelsea’s Willian.

Gareth Bale & Tottenham

For the second day running on the back page in Britain, stories linking Gareth Bale with Man United are doing the rounds.

The story is anchored in Bale’s ongoing injury problems in Spain.

Bale missed Saturday night’s 0-0 draw away at Atletico Madrid.

Belief is that Real are fed up with Bale’s ongoing health problems, and Man United could sign the forward in the summer.

The Express, laughably claiming an ‘exclusive’ recycle old news that Tottenham have an option on Bale.

As revealed by the  the Football Leaks website back in January 2016, until the 30th June 2019, Spurs have the right of first refusal on any bid for Bale.

The first option clause doesn’t give Spurs a discount or even allow them to bid for Bale before rivals. It gives them the opportunity to match the offer of a rival within 72 hours of that original offer being made.

So if Manchester United make a big bid for Bale then Spurs can theoretically match it. However, there is the issue of whether Spurs could afford to bring Bale back. His transfer fee would be huge as would his wages.

Chelsea & Willian

The story Man United rumour is that Jose Mourinho could try to sign Willian from Chelsea this January.

It’s claimed that Chelsea want to sign Lucas Moura from PSG, and if that deal happens Willian could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge.

After Nemanja Matic joined Man United, would Chelsea really sell another player to the Red Devils?
