Chelsea reportedly monitoring Matthew Bondswell/ Newcastle tipped to move for Fikayo Tomori

A number of transfer updates surrounding Chelsea have emerged online over the last 24 hours.

Chelsea eyeing Leipzig left-back

First, the Blues have been credited with an interest in Matthew Bondswell.

Bondswell is a young full-back currently plying his trade with German outfit RB Leipzig.

The 18-year-old joined Leipzig’s youth system in 2018, from Championship side Nottingham Forest.

And Bondswell has since been loaned to Dutch second-tier side FC Dordrecht.

The England under-18 international has notched seven appearances in the Netherlands thus far, with his displays having seemingly done enough to catch the eye of Chelsea.

As per a recent report from the Telegraph, the Pensioners and fellow London outfit West Ham are among the clubs monitoring Bondswell’s situation.

Portuguese outfit Sporting CP are also credited with an interest in the defender, though no potential fee is touted by the Telegraph.

Newcastle want Tomori on loan

The next piece of Chelsea transfer news regards a potential outgoing at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have a plethora of centre-back options to choose from as things stand.

Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma are, without question, Frank Lampard’s first-choice pairing.

That leaves all of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori to fight it out for minutes as backup options.

And, at present, Tomori appears to be at the bottom of the pecking order, with the young Englishman having been limited to just 45 minutes of Premier League action this term.

So, with the January window fast approaching, an exit – be it on loan or a permanent basis – appears to be the best option for Tomori, to ensure the stopper’s development is not completely halted.

And one potential destination recently touted for the stopper have been Newcastle.

According to the Northern Echo, Steve Bruce will have to limit his January reinforcements to loan signings. It is added that Chelsea have indicated Tomori will indeed be leaving Stamford Bridge on loan following the turn of the year, and could provide competition for Newcastle’s current set of centre-backs.
