Chelsea’s lack of goals
Chelsea’s 2020/21 under Thomas Tuchel will no doubt go down as one of the greatest starts a manager can have in a job.
In just half a season Tuchel was able to guide Chelsea back into 4th place in the Premier League and secure the club’s second Champions League title by toppling PL champions Manchester City in the final.
Chelsea, though, are still not the finished article, with their real lack of a top goal-scorer no doubt a concern.
Despite hardly featuring in all competitions under Thomas Tuchel, Tammy Abraham remained Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions in 2020/21, netting 12 goals.
And though Chelsea fans may want to see Abraham back in the side, Tuchel is clearly not a big fan, with it reported that the Blues will listen to offers for the Englishman this summer.
In the Premier League last season meanwhile, Jorginho finished the campaign as the Londoners’ top-scorer with just seven goals – all of which were penalties.
Chelsea may need to wait to sign top striker
So, it is quite apparent that the centre-forward spot needs to be addressed by Chelsea.
And the club do seemingly want to address this issue, as it has been claimed that Chelsea’s priority in the market was to sign a striker.
A recent report, however, suggests that Chelsea may have to wait if they wish to bring in a big-name striker.
According to a report from the Daily Star:
Tuchel has been promised money to spend in the transfer market and wants to sign a striker – but could be forced to wait to sign a marquee name.
It goes on to explain that Manchester City are favourites to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane whilst Erling Haaland and Romelu Lukaku are now unlikely to be on the market this summer.
#CFC have big plans in the transfer market – but may have to wait a year for the marquee striker #Tuchel really wants. #MCFC favourites if #Kane leaves #THFC and #Lukaku and #Haaland may stay put this summer https://t.co/NV7m1lMYfR

Lukaku, for his part, stated recently that he would be staying put at Inter Milan.
This news may also go some way to explaining why Olivier Giroud, who is 34 and was out of contact at the end of this month, has now agreed to stay at Stamford Bridge for another year.
Giroud contract extended. 👇
