Chelsea v Man City for Danilo
Whilst speculation regarding Real Madrid’s players was always inevitable this summer, perhaps no one believed two of the Premier League’s biggest sides would be fighting over Danilo.
In many ways it goes to show just how important full backs/wing backs are now in the modern game.
On Tuesday, Marca report that three managers want Danilo next season: Zinedine Zidane, Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola.
For many days now, it looked like Chelsea were the firm favourites to sign Danilo.
Danilo wants to leave Real Madrid
Despite Zidane’s desire for Danilo to stay, the former Porto right back is keen for regular first team football.
At Real Madrid, Danilo is behind Deni Carvajal in the pecking order.
Zidane would like a strong Real Madrid squad in all positions, but is aware that Danilo is eager to leave and will not block his way.
Danilo is also conscious of the fact that he needs to play this season to force himself into the Brazil World Cup squad.
Pep Guardiola v Antonio Conte
The destination for Danilo looks likely to be England but it could be either Chelsea or Manchester City.
Marca add that a deal for Danilo could be wrapped up in the coming hours with the Brazilian right back arriving in England this week.
It looks like Chelsea have the edge for Danilo since they will offer him a first team spot, with Victor Moses playing in that position last season.
Whereas if Manchester City sign Danilo, he will be in direct competition with new signing Kyle Walker.
It seems clear that both Pep and Conte want two options on the right hand side, with a busy season to come in the Premier League and Champions League…
