Chelsea ‘make enquiry’ for Ligue 1 striker

Reports coming out of Canada have credited Chelsea with an interest in Ligue 1 striker Jonathan David.
Jonathan David is currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 with Lille. David was signed by Lille in August of 2020 for a fee reported to be just over £24m.
The New York-born hitman went on to enjoy a solid debut campaign in France, netting 13 and assisting three in 37 outings as Lille piped PSG to the Ligue 1 title.
Lille’s form, on the whole, has since dropped off a fair bit, but David has only continued to improve. In 29 outings across all competitions this term, David has already scored 16 goals.
Now, as per Canadian outfit TSN, all of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested in David.
However, Barcelona, Chelsea and Tottenham are all said to have made inquiries regarding the striker’s immediate future.
But it is believed that David is not looking to move away from Lille in the winter, with a big-money move in the summer instead touted.
Romelu Lukaku continues to flounder
When Chelsea snapped Romelu Lukaku up in the summer of 2021, the thought of them going for another striker less than a year later would have seemed odd to many.
The Belgian was one of the world’s most inform centre-forwards at Inter and was expected to build on that with the reigning European Champions, firing Chelsea into the Premier League title race.
However, after another poor showing vs Brighton, Chelsea are now all but out of the title race.
Lukaku, meanwhile, was once again pretty quiet vs Brighton and did not click with Chelsea’s other forwards on the day.
