Chelsea make decision on future on newly-signed star

Chelsea have come to a decision over the future of one of the newest players.

Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa in August of 2022 for around £15m.

The 19-year-old made 14 Premier League appearances during the 2022/23 season for the Blues, but only started two matches, garnering just 345 minutes of league action across all 14 outings.

Given his age and potential, it seems obvious that he needs more game time if he is to continue the progress he was making when still on Aston Villa’s books.

And now, an update on the teenager’s future has been provided.

As per football.london, Chelsea do not plan to sell Carney Chukwuemeka this summer or include a permanent clause in any loan contract.

However, the club are considering sending the 19-year-old midfielder out on loan this summer to help him get some more first-team experience elsewhere.

Given Chelsea look likely to lose all of N’Golo Kante, Matteo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 2023 summer window, there may have been room for more minutes for Chukwuemeka, but as Chelsea are linked with several more central midfielders, a loan does seem the best option.
