Free agent linked to the Blues
The transfer window may be shut, but deals can still take place for free agents.
In that regard, Chelsea have been tipped by Italian news outlet Calciomercato to be mulling over a move for out of contract defender Martin Caceres.
The story seems to relate to Chelsea’s struggles in boosting the backline in the summer window.
On transfer deadline day, Chelsea shocked many re-signing David Luiz from PSG for 34 million pounds.
But is Luiz the defender Chelsea needed?
Conte knows Caceres from Juventus
The logic of the Caceres rumour is simple.
The 29-year-old Uruguay international is available to move to west London right now, while Conte is well-versed in the player’s qualities as he’s coached him at Juventus in the past.
Moreover, while Caceres may not be a starter for the Pensioners, he would add strength in depth as the Blues roll out John Terry (35-years-old) and Branislav Ivanovic (32-years-old) on a regular basis.
Caceres, however, has suffered from injury problems in recent times, and Calciomercato claim Conte has asked to see the player’s medical records for decided whether he’ll make a move or not.
