Chelsea boss Frank Lampard confirms Fikayo Tomori could leave on loan this month

Chelsea hammer Morecambe

Chelsea returned to FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues were drawn against lower-league outfit Morecambe in the competition’s 3rd round.

As such, easy passage into the last-32 was widely expected of the Londoners – especially when taking into account the strength of the starting XI fielded by Frank Lampard.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech, Kurt Zouma, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner were all in from the off at Stamford Bridge.

And, unsurprisingly, the Blues eventually managed to come away with a comfortable victory.

All of Mason Mount, Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kai Havertz were on target for the home side.

Frank Lampard on Tomori’s future

Following his side’s victory, meanwhile, Frank Lampard provided an insight into the future of Fikayo Tomori.

The stopper was a regular contributor under Lampard last season, but has since fallen majorly out of favour.

Tomori wasn’t even afforded a start against Morecambe, a decision which no doubt left the Chelsea faithful perplexed.

However, Lampard has since provided something of an explanation for the stopper’s absence from the off this afternoon, confirming that Tomori could be loaned out this month:

The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment. There’s a possibility that he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else but that has to be right solution for him and the club. He was part of my thinking to start today but we’re looking at that.

His attitude has been fantastic in terms of training every day and how he is because it’s not easy when we have five centre-backs at the club.

Newcastle United are one club to have previously been tipped to swoop for Tomori.
