Could Renato Sanches join Chelsea?
Earlier this week, it looked likely that Portugal Euro 2016 star Renato Sanches was on his way to AC Milan, perhaps on a one-year loan deal.
On Friday, reports have emerged from Singapore, where Chelsea are preparing to face Inter Milan on Saturday, that Antonio Conte is keen on the Bayern Munich midfielder.
Both the Evening Standard and the Daily Mirror have revealed today that Antonio Conte has asked Carlo Ancelotti about the availability of Sanches in recent days.
Chelsea 2 – Bayern Munich 3
The Premier League champions played Bayern Munich earlier this week and lost 3-2.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side went 3-0 up thanks to goals from Rafinha and Thomas Muller (2). Marcos Alonso and Michy Batshuayi brought some respectability to the score.
According to Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard, Conte made an enquiry for Sanches after the friendly game.
Bayern are prepared to loan out Sanches for one year. AC Milan were keen on a two-season loan deal.
Do Chelsea need another midfielder?
The rumours regarding Sanches have appeared since Conte might be a little short in midfield for the new season.
New signing Tiemoue Bakayoko is not expected to be fit in mid August and Nemanja Matic remains likely to join Manchester United.
Conte is now considering Sanches and reportedly has an advantage due to his friendship with current Bayern Munich coach and former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Are Manchester United interested in Sanches?
Manchester United are also supposed to be keen on Sanches but the youngster shares the same agent as Jose Mourinho: Jorge Mendes.
So, if the Red Devils really were interested you suspect that deal would have been done by now.
In The Sun today, Chelsea are linked with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley, who both have one year left on their contracts at Arsenal and Everton respectively.
What next for Renato Sanches?
The last season has been one of struggle for Renato Sanches after a brilliant campaign in 2015/2016.
Renato Sanches was excellent for Benfica and earned a big money move to Bayern Munich before starring for Portugal at Euro 2016.
The dreadlocked midfielder failed to earn a starting spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s side in 2016/2017 and was reportedly made available for sale by Bayern Munich.
