Breaking: Tottenham sign Fernando Llorente

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Fernando Llorente from Swansea City, beating Chelsea to the signing of the Spaniard, in a deal believed to be worth between £11 and £14m.

Tottenham have finally managed to beat Chelsea – to the signature of Fernando Llorente.

Chelsea had been targeting the forward as they look for a back-up to Alvaro Morata, with Michy Batshuayi failing to impress.

Tottenham have had similar issues with Vincent Janssen and therefore opted to recruit a new deputy for Harry Kane.

Tottenham decided yesterday afternoon to move for Llorente and have moved quickly to wrap the deal up.

They agreed a fee between £11 and £14m with Swansea City.

The 32 year old underwent a medical at Hotspur Way today and signed a two-year contract.

Fifth summer signing

Llorente becomes Tottenham’s fifth signing of the summer.

Earlier today, Tottenham completed the signing of Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain

Also, yesterday announcing the arrival of Juan Foyth, to add to the additions of Davinson Sanchez and Paulo Gazzaniga.

Tottenham have left moves in the window very late, with their first signing coming on only 18 August.

There remains a possibility that they could add more before the 11pm deadline.

Tottenham are also working on a deal for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes.

Mauricio Pochettino is understood to be a fan of the Portuguese international.

The deal is understood to be a season-long loan deal, with an obligation to buy for £40m.
