Mark Hughes v Jose Mourinho

Boost for Mark Hughes: Striker headed to Stoke

Stoke & Bojan Krkic

It’s beginning to seem inevitable that Spanish striker Bojan Krkic is heading back to Stoke.

Bojan has been on loan at Spanish club Alaves since the start of the season.

But Bojan has struggled for game time in the first half of a season. He’s only made three starts in La Liga and he’s only scored once in the Spanish top flight

On Wednesday night in the Copa del Rey, Bojan’s continued stay at Alaves appeared to come to an end.

Alaves were drawn against Formentera in the last-16 of the Spanish Cup. Bojan was left out of the Alaves squad for the game.

The likes of Marca have since reported that Bojan is poised to return to the Premier League to rejoin Stoke as Alaves are ready to end the loan deal.

Is Mark Hughes staying?

On Tuesday the BBC and Sky Sports have both posted updates on Mark Hughes’s position at Stoke.

What seems clear, for now, is that Hughes is staying put. The BBC have reported:

Stoke are considering the future of manager Mark Hughes after a disappointing first half of the season.

Hughes remains at the helm and is preparing the team for Saturday’s trip to Coventry City in the FA Cup.

As for the Sky Sports update, Stoke seem to be acting in the shadow of Everton’s experiences this season.

After sacking Ronald Koeman, Everton took five weeks before deciding on Sam Allardyce.

The understanding is that Stoke are not convinced that any of the managers currently on the market have a better chance of keeping them up when compared to Hughes.
