Boost for Liverpool as Reds take centre stage in Florian Neuhaus race
Word stemming from the German media on Friday suggests that Liverpool have taken frontrunner status in the race for Borussia Monchengladbach star Florian Neuhaus, as the Reds step up their efforts to find a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
Barca bound
The subject of Wijnaldum’s future has of course represented something of a concern at Anfield for some time now.
This comes with the midfielder, who has long acted as a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s ranks in the middle of the park, inching ever closer to the exit door.
Wijnaldum’s current terms on Merseyside are due to expire in the summer, with little progress thought to have been made in negotiations between the parties regarding a new deal.
In turn, the general assumption, at this point, is that the Dutchman, in the end, will opt to move on, with La Liga giants Barcelona looking his most likely landing spot:

Gladbach star incoming?
As such, with Wijnaldum having started in all but two of Liverpool’s Premier League fixtures to this point in the campaign, it goes without saying that his departure will represent a blow for Klopp and co.
The former Newcastle man will therefore require replacing, with recent word doing the rounds in the German media having pointed towards a Bundesliga star as one potential target for the Reds.
The player in question? Florian Neuhaus.
23-year-old midfield talent Neuhaus is currently plying his trade for Borussia Monchengladbach, and has enjoyed a fine season to date.
The former 1860 Munich man has notched 6 goals and 4 assists across 31 appearances in all competitions, the latest of which came against Manchester City in the Champions League two nights ago.

It has therefore come as little surprise to hear of Jurgen Klopp’s interest in his fellow countryman, who has also managed 3 appearances for the German national team.
And, as outlined above, on Friday, the Merseysiders have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Neuhaus.
This comes amid a fresh update surrounding the midfielder’s situation as things stand. As per a report from German transfer expert Christian Falk of Sport Bild, two of the key suitors in the race for the 23-year-old – in the form of Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich – have distanced themselves from a summer swoop for his signature.
In turn, it has been suggested that a move abroad looks the most likely outcome for Neuhaus, with Liverpool having been keeping an eye on his development for some time now.
Significantly, it is also suggested that the German himself would be keen on a move to Anfield.
