Blessing in disguise for Bayern Munich defender

Alaba injury

Bayern Munich have suffered a blow with news that defender David Alaba has been ruled out for up to six weeks.

The Austrian will miss Champions League fixtures against Anderlecht and Paris Saint-Germain, and may even be unavailable for Bayern’s clash against Celtic in mid-October.

Bayern take on Hoffenheim at the Rhein-Neckar Arena on Saturday, looking to continue their 100% start to the season.

Bayern relief

Bayern will be thankful that they turned down a bid for Rafinha to leave the club, as he will likely fill in for Alaba while he’s injured.

Rafinha was one of a number of players who Chelsea missed out on this summer.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain chose Liverpool over the Blues, while Ross Barkley’s transfer from Everton didn’t materialise.

Probably the biggest rejection of them all was that of former Chelsea player Romelu Lukaku, who was widely expected to return to his former employers.

Instead, Lukaku joined Man United, leaving Chelsea with Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.

Similarly, striker Diego Costa failed to get the move from Stamford Bridge he wanted, meaning he’ll remain at the club until at least January.

Next up for Chelsea is a an away trip to Leicester City. The Blues will be looking to make it three wins on the spin as Eden Hazard returns to club action for the first time this campaign.
