Man United close in on signing Umaro Embalo
Last Thursday, reports spread like wildfire that Manchester United had signed Umaro Embalo, from Benfica.
Embalo is one of the hottest properties around and Manchester United have had success in the past in signing wingers from Portugal.
Amongst those are Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani. Whilst the less said about Bebe the better.
Nevertheless, there was much excitement from Manchester United fans once Portuguese newspaper Record claimed it was a done deal for Embalo.
Benfica update on Man United signing Umaro Embalo
Despite all the reports, there were no updates from either Benfica, Manchester United or Umaro Embalo that the young winger has signed for Manchester United.
Benfica president Luís Filipe Vieira was asked by A Bola about the future of two young highly rated players at his club: Joao Carvalho and Umaro Embalo.
In typical charismatic style, Luis Filipe Vieira replied: “Every time I leave Portugal, I’m going to sell players. Even now, I had to leave Portugal and there was news in a newspaper: ‘Benfica sold João Carvalho’. I did not even mention Joao Carvalho. It’s the most cursory stuff.”
“I will not sell anyone”
Asked directly about the future of the two players, Luis Filipe Vieira added: “It is not worth talking about the news of players who have been sold. I just said that I will not sell anyone. ”
There is though real confusion amongst those who are keeping an eye on this potential transfer to Manchester United.
Since Umaro Embalo’s agent Catio Balde says there are conversations between Benfica and Man United.
It is far from certain when Embalo will arrive at Manchester United, when/if he does sign for the Premier League giants.
Embalo is expected to join up with Manchester United’s Under-21 side.
