Bayern ‘convinced’ they will soon receive a new bid from Liverpool for Thiago

Several updates concerning Liverpool’s pursuit of Bayern Munich star Thiago have emerged online on Wednesday.

Liverpool linked with Thiago

Thiago has, of course, been a mainstay in Bayern Munich’s side since arriving in Germany from FC Barcelona in 2013.

And though injuries did hamper his playing time somewhat last time out, the midfield maestro still played a crucial role in Bayern securing the treble – including a sensational display vs PSG in the Champions League final.

However, though he remains a key figure for the Bavarians, Thiago’s future looks set to lie away from the Allianz Arena.

Speaking in July, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that the Spaniard, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract, had expressed a desire to move on:

‘He’s a great guy on and off the pitch. We negotiated with him and met all of his wishes, but Thiago Alcantara wants to leave.’

‘It looks like he may want to do something new at the end of his career. We don’t want to lose a player for free next year. I say that very clearly.’

Rummenigge’s comments came just days after reports in the Spanish press claimed that Thiago was ‘very close to Liverpool’.

Thiago latest

An Anfield switch, of course, is yet to come to pass.

But the La Masia youth has nevertheless continued to be heavily linked with a move to England.

Christian Falk of German outlet SportBild even claimed last week that he believes Thiago will be a Liverpool player by the end of the transfer window.

Now, as mentioned above, some fresh updates concerning Thiago and Liverpool have been forthcoming on Wednesday.

First, the highly-reliable Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool are still working to get Thiago, with Bayern said to be convinced that they will receive a new bid from the Reds soon. Jurgen Klopp is also believed to be pushing for the midfielder’s signing:

Mohamed Bouhafsi of French outlet RMC Sport, meanwhile, has also, on Wednesday, commented on Liverpool’s pursuit of Thiago, stating that the 29-year-old’s ‘only choice’ is a move to Anfield:
