Sergi Roberto

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde confirms that Spanish duo are in his plans

In Barcelona’s plans

Paulinho’s recent arrival at Barcelona does not mean that Sergi Roberto and Sergi Samper are not in his long-term plans.

Manager Ernesto Valverde did not, however, rule out either of them leaving on loan.

“It’s true that I’ve talked to [Samper],” he said. “He came back from a loan [at Granada] in which he did not play the minutes that he or the club wanted.

“Here, he’ll have less minutes. I spoke about the idea of him progressing to be a major player in the future.

“[Roberto] is an important player for our team. He is a player I absolutely count on.”

Chelsea and Man United linked

Valverde’s comments come on the back of heavy speculation that the pair could leave following Paulinho’s arrival.

It’s though that Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United are both interested in signing Roberto.

The 25-year-old has a 40 million release clause.
