Ferran Torres & Dani Olmo on Xavi’s wishlist
New Barcelona boss Xavi is wasting no time in making plain his desire to add quality at the Camp Nou in the wake of his appointment as successor to former headmaster Ronald Koeman.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Xavi is keen on targeting reinforcements on the flanks, and has set his sights on Spanish pair Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo as his preferred candidates for January business.
In the report, reference is made to Xavi’s tactical intentions to focus on efficient and effective play on the flanks, to stretch the opposition full-backs and keep them on the back foot and thus unable to influence proceedings further forward. Versatile wingers capable of being deployed on either side are the preference of the Barça icon, with Torres and Olmo being the preferred targets ahead of the former’s Manchester City teammate Raheem Sterling.
But Olmo seems far more likely to be open to leaving current employers RB Leipzig for a return to Barcelona, after the Catalan-native previously spoke openly about his desire to go back to his footballing roots while being closer to his family in the process.
As for Torres, despite his current injury, the Spanish international has come on strongly in his development under City boss Pep Guardiola, who has helped the former Valencia starlet to adapt to a center-forward role since his arrival at the Etihad, and is likely in no hurry to leave the blue half of Manchester any time soon.
Further recruitment at the Camp Nou is needed
Not only is Barcelona now linked with a move for a wide player, but the club has also recently been linked with interest in center-forward options.
Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani have both been mentioned as potential targets for Xavi as soon as the January window in the wake of Sergio Agüero’s long-term absence, whilst Luuk de Jong is already linked with leaving the club during the winter window.
Luuk de Jong, Samuel Umtiti, and Neto are all expected to leave in January.

Additionally, Danish international forward Martin Braithwaite is sidelined by injury, leaving Dutch international star Memphis Depay as the only trusted option available to Xavi in the number 9 role.
If all things go according to Xavi’s wishes, Barcelona should be rather occupied over the next few transfer windows, as the former midfield general aims to get the club back on track as soon as possible.
