Leicester & Islam Slimani
One player who could be about to leave Leicester City this January is Islam Slimani.
Way behind Jamie Vardy in the pecking order, Slimani has failed to assert himself as a starter since he joined from Sporting CP.
Reduced to being an impact subs at the King Power Stadium, Slimani has only scored once and contributed one assist for Leicester in the league this season.
The 29-year-old Algerian striker is under contract with Leicester until 2021, but he looks likely to switch clubs in the current window.
Watford overtake Newcastle
Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Slimani.
Although, in a week in which Amanda Staveley’s takeover bid seems to have imploded, Newcastle’s hopes of signing the Leicester striker seem to have receded
Indeed, the Mirror have claimed “Newcastle have eyed (Slimani) but their interest has cooled.”
Turkish side Besiktas have also been linked to Slimani after Cenk Tuson’s move to Everton.
But, according to the Times on Thursday, Watford are stepping up efforts to get the deal done. Readers are told:
Watford hope to hold talks with Leicester City before the weekend in an attempt to sign Islam Slimani, the Algeria forward who has scored 13 goals since his £28 million move from Sporting Lisbon.
Leicester City vs Watford
As fate would have it, Watford travel to Leicester this weekend in the Premier League.
Will the Hornets take the opportunity to seal a deal for Slimani?
Leicester come into the game sitting eighth in the league table. Watford are two places behind them in the table, while Marco Silva’s men are four points behind the Foxes.
When the sides recently met in the Premier League in December, Watford ran out 2-1 winners at Vicarage Road.
