Mesut Ozil v N'Golo Kante in the FA Cup final

Bad for Man United: Odds slashed on Mesut Ozil’s Arsenal deal

Mesut Ozil & Man United

Arsenal beat Newcastle United 1-0 on Saturday.

Mesut Ozil was the star of the show for the Gunners agains the Magpies.

Bringing back memories of Zinedine Zidane’s Champions League final goal, Ozil laced a left-footed volley into the Newcastle net.

It was a goal worthy of winning any game.

But for how much longer will Ozil be at the Emirates Stadium?

As everyone knows, the German World Cup winner is out of contract at the end of the season. And if Arsenal want to command any transfer fee for Ozil, this January window is the final time they can cash in.

In recent months there have been reports that Man United could make a move for Ozil.

Ozil has previously worked with Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, and their said to have enjoyed a good working relationship.

And how sweet would it be for Mourinho to pinch an Arsenal star from under Arsene Wenger’s nose, and go on to win silverware with them?

Awesome news for Arsenal

On Monday odds have been slashed on Ozil agreeing a new deal to remain with Arsenal.

Ladbrokes now rate the German’s chances of staying at the Emirates after the winter transfer window at 1/4 – making it more likely than ever he remains a Gunner for the rest of the season.

And there’s more good news for Arsenal fans, with Ozil now priced at 7/4 to stay in North London after the summer transfer window – having once been as long as 4/1 to still be at the club at the end of the campaign.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Ozil’s gone from inevitable goner to potentially lifelong Gooner with talk of a contract extension intensifying and it’s now looking more likely than ever he’ll be staying put.”
