Bad for Man City: Arsenal’s Jonny Evans transfer faces key 48 hours

West Brom defender Jonny Evans

Alarm bells went off for West Brom fans last weekend when Jonny Evans missed the FA Cup win at Exeter.

West Brom claimed that Evans missed the match with a “sore foot”, however many found that explanation wanting.

For the second transfer window in a row, Jonny Evans is being tipped to leave West Brom.

The 30-year-old defender is out of contract at the Hawthorns in 2019, while several of the Premier League big boys are supposedly interested in his services.

Man City vs Arsenal

Two of those potential suitors are Man City and Arsenal.

Evans, of course, previously played for Manchester United.

City, according to reports, are keen on Evans as a third choice centre-back.

While John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi are Pep Guardiola’s first choice pairing, Evans would jump above Vincent Kompany in the pecking order.

At Arsenal, however, Evans could likely be a regular starter for the Gunners.

Looking good for the Gunners

The big news in the Times on Tuesday is that Arsenal appear to be closing in on Jonny Evans. Readers are told:

The Times understands that Arsenal have emerged as serious rivals to Manchester City for the signature of the centre back, who wants to leave West Brom this month.

Arsenal and City have been in contact with West Brom since the window reopened and more talks are expected to take place over the next 48 hours as the player and West Brom look for a swift conclusion.

The report goes on to state that Arsene Wenger has made Evans his “No 1 transfer target”.

It’s also noted that Arsenal are willing to spend 25 million pounds on the defender.
