Bad for Liverpool: Luis Suarez’s Philippe Coutinho & Barcelona claim

Luis Suarez & Philippe Coutinho

With less than two months to go before the January transfer window reopens, it should be no surprise that stories linking Philippe Coutinho with Barcelona are persisting.

As everyone knows, following Neymar’s exit to PSG, Barcelona tried their best to sign Liverpool’s Coutinho.

But Liverpool resisted Barcelona’s approaches, Coutinho stayed put, but the rumours have failed to dissipate.

Now the possible transfer is back on the agenda after Luis Suarez’s new interview with Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo.

From Liverpool to Barcelona

Luis Suarez made the switch from Liverpool to Barcelona after the 2014 World Cup.

Could Coutinho now join the South American at the Camp Nou?

Mundo Deportivo’s splash carries a quote from Suarez saying “Coutinho would bring us much”.

When it can to the meat of Suarez’s comments, the Uruguayan spoke positively about Brazilian joining Barca:

Question: What would Coutinho bring to Barcelona?

Suarez: A lot. I know him as a person and as a player because I played with him, but what Coutinho can contribute everyone knows. He is a footballer, who today, plays at a very high level.

Question: Did Coutinho want to come to Barca?

Suarez: Obviously he must have because he’s a player who has ambition and any player would want to come to Barça. He went through a difficult and very complicated moment but as a professional he continued to show how good a player he is.

Coutinho doesn’t play for Liverpool, joins up with Brazil

The super surprising angle on Coutinho’s recent absence from the Liverpool side, due to a groin injury, is that he has joined up with Brazil for their friendly matches with Japan and England coming up.

It will be fascinating to see if Coutinho plays for Brazil, certainly there will be much angst amongst Liverpool fans if he does.

The Catalan press have been pushing the theory for some time that Coutinho will play for Barcelona once he is signed in the January transfer window.
