Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez & Man City
Will this be the big deal out of nowhere on transfer deadline day?
On Tuesday evening news reports broke that Manchester City are trying to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester.
The potential deal seems to have been provoked by an injury to Leroy Sane.
Sane could now miss the next seven weeks of action for the Sky Blues. And, having missed out on Alexis Sanchez, now Mahrez is being targetted by Pep Guardiola.
Mahrez’s ‘friend’ on Man City’s deadline day deal
When it comes to news on Algerian football, the go-to source is north African news outlet Le Buteur.
On Wednesday morning Le Buteur have published fresh quotes from a ‘friend’ of the Leicester winger.
The friend has spoken about the likelihood of Mahrez being a Man City player by the end of the day:
For the moment, I can not not sure. But what is certain is that Manchester City actually wants Riyad and an agreement could be found tomorrow (i.e. today).
There are still details to be sorted out. Contrary to past times, this is a concrete offer.
We hope that an agreement will be found before the end of this winter transfer window.
Transfer request, out vs Everton
Mahrez has reportedly handed in a transfer request after he found out about Man City’s interest.
Moreover, Mahrez is expected to miss Leicester’s Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park tonight as he tries to leave the King Power Stadium.
It’s believed Man City would have to offer north of £60 million to sign Mahrez.
For the record, the Algerian is eligible to play in the Champions League.
If Man City get Mahrez done today, and it's a big 'if,' that would take Guardiola's spending at the club beyond half-a-billion pounds, In 18 months.
