Arsenal’s January business
It’s set to be an enormous week at Arsenal.
Either on Monday, or more likely Tuesday, Arsenal and Man United will confirm it.
Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are swapping clubs.
Mkhitaryan, 29 this weekend, is leaving Old Trafford to join the Gunners. As for Alexis, 29, he is teaming up with Jose Mourinho at the Theatre of Dreams.
Of course, Sanchez was set to become a free agent at the end of the season. While Mkhitaryan had lost his place in the Man United squad.
Aubameyang at Arsenal
But that’s just the starting point.
Arsenal are also expected to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.
The Gunners sent chief scout Sven Mislintat along with Ivan Gazidas to Germany on Sunday to negotiate the deal.
By all accounts the Gabonese international striker will move to Arsenal in a 60 million euro transfer.
It’s possible that Olivier Giroud may move to BVB as part of the package.
Cristian Pavon on leaving Boca Juniors
But could Arsenal bring in another striker as well this January?
At the start of the transfer window rumours sprung up that Arsenal are interested in Boca Juniors forward Cristian Pavon.
Is this another target lined up by Arsenal’s Sven Mislintat?
22-year-old Cristian Pavon has been an ever present for the Argentine powerhouse. He’s scored three goals and chipped in with six assists this season.
For the record, Pavon is under contract until 2022.
On Sunday night the Argentine upstart was asked about a possible move to Arsenal, and rather than shoot down the story Pavon said the following:
One always gives the maximum so that other teams likes you.
I hope (the move to Arsenal) is arranged. I said at one point that I would stay but.. I will sit down to talk with my manager, with my family, and I will see what happens.
It’s reported that Pavon has a $37 million release clause in his contract.
While many had assumed this deal may only happen in the summer, it’s now possible Arsenal could make the deal happen now.
It’s also worth noting that Pavon recently received his first international call ups for La Albiceleste.
He’s in with an outside shot of making the Argentine 2018 World Cup squad.
