Atletico want Torreira to replace Herrera / Simeone desperate for Partey to stay

Atletico want Torreira to replace Herrera / Simeone desperate for Partey to stay

Terms agreed

Lucas Torreira has long been seen as one of Arsenal’s most likely assets for a possible sale.

The Gunners have needed to sell in order to reinvest into their top targets. So far, a number of Italian clubs had shown interest in Torreira but were struggling to reach Arsenal’s asking price.

However, reportedly, Atletico Madrid have made contact with Lucas Torreira and even agreed personal terms with the Uruguayan.

There were further reports that the deal for Torreira was looking to be a loan deal. This would not be favourable to Arsenal without an obligatory purchase option upon the loan’s conclusion.

No Partey here

The most frustrating news for Gunners fans will be that supposedly Diego Simeone wants Lucas Torreira to be a replacement for Hector Herrera.

Atletico have a financial situation similar to that of Arsenal. They are in a situation of needing to sell players to reinvest and the Mexican is seen as expendable by the Argentine coach.

El Cholo wants Torreira to play with Partey and not replace him. Mundo Deportivo reported that the only way Partey will leave is if a club pay the Ghanaian’s release clause.

Arsenal were hopeful that Atelti’s weak financial position may have allowed the north London club to negotiate a lower fee. However, Alvaro Morata’s return to Juventus has improved the Rojiblancos’ monetary position.

Torreira may still hold the key if Mikel Arteta wants to land his number one target this summer. Should Arsenal receive enough funds from the sale of Torreira, and any others, the release clause may become a legitimate option for the Gunners.
