Villa close on Lucas Digne

Aston Villa has edged closer in completing a transfer coup in a move for Everton and French international left-back Lucas Digne this month.

This comes by way of Daily Telegraph northern football reporter John Percy after stating that Villa remains locked in discussions for Digne with a deal nearing completion at Villa Park.

It was reported two days ago by Fabrizio Romano that Villa was hard at work to bring the 28-year-old to Birmingham after the Frenchman fell out with Toffees boss Rafa Benítez, with Benítez unleashing a recent salvo in the left-back’s direction when he claimed that the former LOSC Lille, Paris Saint-Germain, AS Roma, and Barcelona defender was putting his own interests above Everton’s.

With relations between the pair likely irreparable, the finalization of Digne’s move to come under the command of Steven Gerrard seems all but certain.

Everton consider move for Anwar El Ghazi

In an unrelated move, Everton would counter Aston Villa’s move for Lucas Digne by bringing Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi to Goodison Park as Rafa Benítez looks to add further depth on the flanks on Merseyside.

But a move for the former LOSC Lille and Ajax Amsterdam forward could possibly set the Toffees back somewhere in the region of £15million given Villa’s valuation of Barendrecht-native despite failing to be relied upon by Steven Gerrard since the Liverpool legend took over from Dean Smith.

A completed deal for the 26-year-old would add yet another wide man into the ranks at Everton in a squad that already includes Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend, Anthony Gordon, Alex Iwobi, and Richarlison.

Whether or not El Ghazi will receive more minutes at Everton than he has under Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa certainly remains to be seen.
