Aston Villa look set to get a major boost in their struggles to avoid the drop as Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has agreed to join the club in a loan move until the end of the season.
Reliable French newspaper L’Equipe report that Debuchy did not want to move permanently in January having failed to displace Hector Bellerin from the Arsenal first team.
Debuchy has met with Aston Villa boss Remi Garde to discuss the move and Arsene Wenger has also approved the loan from Arsenal.
Presumably, Wenger sees Calum Chambers as a suitable replacement for Bellerin should the Spaniard pick up an injury or suspension.
For Debuchy, the challenge at Aston Villa looks a big one but their results have improved of late under Garde and regular playing time will give him a shot of making the France Euro 2016 squad.
Bayer Leverkusen were also linked with Debuchy in recent weeks.
Aston Villa’s next Premier League game is at West Ham on Tuesday week.
