Arsenal’s Maitland-Niles expected to join Wolves this week/Schalke in rumoured Kolasinac swoop

As confirmed by the reliable David Ornstein, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to depart Arsenal for Wolves imminently.

Gunners stint

Versatile 22-year-old Maitland-Niles is a product of Arsenal’s academy.

After making his way through the club’s youth ranks, the English starlet was first handed the chance to impress on a consistent basis in north London during the 2017/18 campaign.

And the seasons since have seen Maitland-Niles go on to play an increasingly prominent role in the first-team ranks of the Gunners.

Across an array of positions, including on both sides of a back-four and on the wing, the London native racked up an impressive 33 appearances in 2019/20.

This included starts in a number of key outings in Arsenal’s run-in, as Mikel Arteta showcased his faith in Maitland-Niles’ talents en route to FA Cup glory.

Wolves bound

As outlined above, however, despite his growing importance to the Gunners cause, Maitland-Niles now looks all set for an imminent departure from the Emirates.

Arsenal’s financial struggles have of course been well documented of late, with the capital giants having seemingly come to the decision that the funds raised through his sale outweigh Maitland-Niles’ potential impact at the club moving forward.

As such, the 22-year-old is expected to join Wolves this week, as confirmed by transfer expert David Ornstein:

Schalke return?

Maitland-Niles, though, is not the only Arsenal defender to have been tipped for an exit from the club on Monday.

The other? Sead Kolasinac.

According to Sky Germany, Bundesliga outfit Schalke hope to lure their former stopper back to the Veltins-Arena this summer.

David Wagner’s side are keen on a loan swoop for the Bosnian, with preliminary discussions thought to have already taken place.

The one major stumbling block in any potential deal, as things stand, though, comes in the form of Kolasinac’s wages.
