Arsenal transfer latest: Diego Costa interest denied/Isco swoop an increasing possibility

Arsenal transfer latest: Diego Costa interest denied/Isco swoop an increasing possibility

A pair of updates surrounding the January transfer plans of Premier League giants Arsenal have been forthcoming online on Tuesday evening.

Costa ruled out

The first surrounds Diego Costa.

The name of former Chelsea hitman Costa has begun to swirl in the media over recent hours, on the back of his departure from Atletico Madrid.

Amid another disappointing campaign, during which the 32-year-old had managed starts in just two of the La Liga table-toppers’ 13 league outings, confirmation that Costa’s Atleti contract had been terminated was forthcoming earlier today:

Despite his recent struggles, the one-time Spanish international is not expected to remain club-less for long, though, with a host of sides no doubt keen on the free agent addition of an experienced goalscorer.

One such outfit to have already been tipped as a potential destination for Costa, meanwhile, have been Arsenal.

Word stemming from the Spanish media suggested that Mikel Arteta and co. would be interested in the veteran hitman as a winter reinforcement to the club’s frontline.

Such claims, however, have since been definitively shut down.

As per a report from reliable English outlet The Times, the Gunners have made it clear that Costa is ‘not on their list of transfer targets’.

Instead, Premier League rivals Wolves, on the back of the long-term injury picked up by Raul Jimenez, have been tipped to launch an offensive for the out-of-contract Spaniard:

Isco incoming?

Elsewhere, an update on Arsenal’s rumoured interest in Isco has also been forthcoming.

Real Madrid star Isco, much like Costa, has endured an underwhelming season thus far, having fallen well down the midfield pecking order of Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane.

In turn, it has already been suggested that the Spanish international is ready to push for a January move away from the Bernabeu:

Arsenal, amid a concerning lack of creativity to this point in the campaign, in turn, have inevitably been named as one potential suitor.

If the latest updates spreading across the media on Tuesday are to be believed, though, then claims of interest on the part of the north Londoners may in fact have more basis than simple paper talk.

The aforementioned Times report surrounding Costa pointed towards a possible pursuit of Isco, with journalist Mark Mann-Bryans of PA Sport having since provided further insight into the situation.

The keenness of Mikel Arteta and co. is said to be very much ‘genuine’, with a loan for the 2nd-half of the campaign, whereby Real would help to cover the midfielder’s wages, being eyed:
