Arsenal close in on first signing of post-Arsene Wenger era
German newspaper Bild reveal on Wednesday that Arsenal are closing in on the first signing of the post-Arsene Wenger era.
They may not have a manager yet, but that will not stop Arsenal from signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund for 20 million euros.
The suggestion that Sokratis Papastathopoulos will sign for Arsenal has been doing the rounds for a few weeks now and certainly ticks a lot of the boxes you might expect.
Whilst the Gunners are expected to sign Mikel Arteta as their new manager, for now and when the Spaniard takes charge, it is Sven Mislintat who is in charge of transfers.
Another ex-Borussia Dortmund man for Arsenal
Since arriving at Arsenal, Sven Mislintat has returned to players from his former club – including Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
At 29-years-old, Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been a mainstay of the Borussia Dortmund side in recent years and comes with plenty of experience.
Arsenal do look short in the centre back positions with Laurent Koscielny out until December and Shkodran Mustafi one of their worst performing players last season.
At 20 million euros, Sokratis Papastathopoulos would be a decent investment for Arsenal and the Greek international could add steel and experience at the back.
