Arsenal’s left-back crisis vs Man City
With less than a week to go in the transfer window, will Arsenal do any more deals?
If the Gunners are to make any more additions, a new left-back could be headed to the Emirates Stadium.
Unai Emery, who starts the new Premier League season against Man City, is beginning the year with a left-back problem.
One player who’ll certainly miss the Man City game for Arsenal is their Bosnian Sead Kolasinac.
In a short but painful update on the Arsenal website over the weekend, Gunners fans have been told:
(Kolasinac) sustained an injury to his left knee. Will be out for 8-10 weeks.
Arsenal’s injury problems worsened on Saturday.
In recent weeks rumours have flown about that Nacho Monreal could be set to leave Arsenal to return to Spain.
However Monreal has more immediate problems, as the defender is also injured. Monreal has a knee injury which is likely to force him out of the Man City game too.
AC Milan’s Ricardo Rodriguez
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal may try to sign AC Milan’s Ricardo Rodriguez before the transfer window closes on Thursday:
Rodriguez moved to Italy last summer after five years at Wolfsburg and made an instant impression.
Milan are not keen to sell the 25-year-old Switzerland international and it may take £30 million to prise him away.
Aside from being a left-back, Ricardo Rodriguez is also a set-piece specialist.
So how likely is this deal to happen? It feels remote at this stage.
What’s more likely to happen is that Unai Emery sweats out his left-back issues. That could mean that Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Alex Iwobi could start the season at left-back against Man City.
