Arsenal reportedly interested in RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate

Arsenal on the up

There’s no denying that Mikel Arteta has had a positive impact at Arsenal.

The Spaniard, despite having possessed zero prior managerial experience, has transformed the Gunners into one of the most well-drilled sides in the Premier League.

Arteta has also already guided his side to both FA Cup and Community Shield glory, whilst taking the scalps of some of the top managers in the game – Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

However, Arsenal are still by no means the finished article.

Arsenal interest in Ibrahima Konate

And, if recent reports are to be believed, then the capital giants appear to be well aware that there are still several areas in which they need to strengthen in order to return to their former glory.

The Gunners have recently been linked with Inter Milan and Italy midfielder Nicola Barella, who could well aid the club’s creative issues in the middle of the park.

And now, on Thursday, reports from Germany have credited Arsenal with an interest in RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate.

Konate joined Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2017.

The 21-year-old Frenchman has since gone on to garner 79 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, including five this term.

He is also right-footed, which could make Konate the perfect centre-back partner for Gabriel, whose impact on Arsenal’s backline has already been immense.

Outside of the Brazilian, though, it is hard to make a case that Arsenal currently have any truly top-class central defenders on their books – an issue the young Konate would no doubt help to resolve.

One stumbling block, however, comes in the form of the potential fee involved.

Konate would likely set Arsenal back a premium sum, with German outlet Bild having reported that the stopper, who is of interest to Mikel Arteta and co., has a €50m release clause.
