A transfer update surrounding striker Darwin Nunez has emerged online.
Nunez is currently plying his trade in Portugal’s top-flight with Benfica, whom he signed for in September of 2020 for a fee reported to be around £21.6m.
Since his move to Benfica, the striker has featured on 77 occasions for the Portuguese powerhouse.
Across these outings, he has scored 40 and provided 14 assists, a fairly solid record.
Though a striker by trade, Nunez can also play on the left-wing, something he has done on several occasions so far this term – scoring nine in four from this spot.
And now, the 22-year-old’s superb 2021/22, which has so far seem him net 26 in 33, appears to have piqued interest from a number of top European sides.
Arsenal & Manchester United eye Nunez
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, Darwin Nunez is one of the most desirable strikers in Europe right now, and Benfica have set an asking price of €75m for the hitman.
It is added that there are currently no official offers for Nunez, but many teams are interested, including Manchester United and Arsenal:
The pair’s interest in Nunez does make a lot of sense for both clubs. Arsenal are currently due to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah for free in the summer, and even if the former does extend his stay at the Emirates, the Gunners will still need another striker for support – especially if they get back into Europe.
Manchester United, meanwhile, currently have a 37-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo and a soon-to-be out-of-contract Edinson Cavani as centre-forward options.
