Arsenal make third bid for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar

Are Arsenal making some headway for Thomas Lemar?

For much of this summer, Arsenal have been linked with Monaco winger Thomas Lemar.

On Friday, L’Equipe have a significant update on Lemar and there appears to be good news for Arsenal, in terms of signing one of their top targets.

Arsenal have made a third offer for Lemar this summer. This bid was for 50 million euros.

The Gunners offered 40 million euros and then 45 million euros for Lemar with their two initial offers.

The reason L’Equipe offer Arsenal fans hope on Lemar, despite a third rejected bid, is due to the fact that Monaco and the player are now reportedly coming round to the idea of a sale.

Lemar concerned about Monaco’s sales

According to L’Equipe journalist Damien Degorre, the latest Arsenal offer “moved some lines” with regards to Monaco owner Vadim Vasilyev.

Crucially, Lemar himself seems to be shifting to thinking about a move due to Monaco’s sales this summer and the likely departure of Kylian Mbappe.

The Ligue 1 champions have already sold Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Benjamin Mendy, with more exits expected this summer.

Lemar now believes that Kylian Mbappe’s depature from Monaco is “inevitable”.

The French international is worried that Monaco will not be competitive next season. Whilst Arsenal cannot offer Champions League football next season, they are expected to challenge in the Premier League for the top four positions.

Will Arsenal return with a fresh bid for Thomas Lemar?

After three rejected bids for Lemar, the ball is very much in Arsenal’s court over their next move.

L’Equipe speculate that Arsenal could return with another bid for Lemar in the coming days.

Much could well depend on the future of Alexis Sanchez, who returns to Arsenal on Sunday for pre-season training.

The Chilean superstar has just one year left on his Arsenal contract.

Lemar’s massive career decision

Lemar was part of Monaco’s successful Ligue 1 title win and run to the Champions League semi-finals.

Much like Bernardo Silva who has already joined Manchester City, Lemar was responsible for a large number of goals (9) and assists (10) in 2016/2017.

Fine club form was rewarded with Les Bleus recognition and wherever Lemar chooses, it looks like a massive career decision ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
